Ils peuvent être ethoxylés (Ammonium Laureth Sulfate). Les benzalkonium (avec un noyau aromatique) sont aussi utilisés (ex: Benzalkonium Chloride). D’autres composés avec des hétérocycles existent, mais ils sont très rares (ex: Cethylpyridinium Chloride).
